USER TIPS
- CHAT:
Your chat feature will allow you to chat in the open, or in private. To chat at in private, simply double-click on the picon of a member while in the main chat mode. Of course, you also have the AU CHAT tab that connects you other HBCU Alumni across the nation in the AlumniUnit.com Network.
- UPLOADING PICTURES:
Your profile picture can be changed/uploaded by clicking ‘My Settings’ on your control panel.
To change/upload your profile photo on a network you already belong to, sign in to the network and click the “My Settings” link on the upper right side of the page. You will then see “My Details” where you can change/update your profile information. Click on the blue/green photo icon next to “Profile Photo.” A small window will pop open. Click the “Browse” button under “Upload a file from your computer.” Locate an image on your computer and click “Done.” When you upload a new photo, the old one will be deleted. IMPORTANT: Make sure you hit save once you are done, otherwise your changes will not take effect.
ONLY photos may be uploaded into your Photo Albums. This means NO FLYERS, BROCHURES, OR GRAPHICS (If we see them, they will be deleted). You can use a third party server site such at Slide.com or PhotoBucket.com to upload photos and get html code to display them on YOUR profile page only.
- SIGNING IN/OFF ISSUES, FRIEND REQUESTS, ETC.:
We’ve had a few members report an issue of not being able to sign out of their account, or not being able to approve comments or friend requests. Almost every time it appears to be a cookies and cache issue. As a resolution, clear your cookies and cache. Once your cookies and cache are cleared, signing out, accepting friends and comments will work properly again. This is especially a problem with IE 6.
If you aren’t exactly computer savvy, we have links below that will also help. We also recommend that you upgrade to IE 7, or switch over to Firefox 3, which can be downloaded at www.getfirefox.com.

- DELETING YOUR PROFILE:
On the right hand side of your Unit page you will see a menu that lists your Inbox, Alerts, Friends and Settings. Go to the “Settings” tab and it will display your “profile” tab which currently lists all your Unit profile questions & answers. At the bottom of that page there is a link that says “Leave – Unit”. You will then see a pop up module that will ask you if you are sure about your decision to leave your Unit.
- FORGOTTEN PASSWORD:
If you have forgotten your password we cannot give it to you. In order to access your page once you have forgotten your password, you must:
Go to the sign in page and click on the “Forgot Your Password” link. The site will then prompt you to enter the email address that you used to sign up with and then hit the “Reset Password” button. You will then receive an email with a link to reset your password.
- TWO PROFILES CANNOT BE COMBINED:
If you have created two profiles because you have forgotten your password to one, you cannot combine the two pages once you remember your password. You must get rid of one of the pages and manually transfer the information from one page to another.
