Dwayne Ashley, President and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), today announced that he will resign his position after 10 years of service. Mr. Ashley was named president of TMCF in June of 1999.

“I’m very proud of what the Thurgood Marshall College Fund has accomplished in my 10 years with the organization,” said Mr. Ashley. “We have awarded more than $100 million in leadership development, programmatic and capacity building support to our 47 member public Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), and scholarships to students attending member schools.  Supported by a talented, seasoned staff, a hardworking and effective board of directors and the presidents of our member colleges and universities, TMCF has become one of the strongest voices for students of color and our member institutions.  I have the comfort of knowing that the organization is as strong as it’s ever been, and will certainly remain an invaluable asset to our country.”

In accepting his resignation, Jim Clifton, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Dr. N. Joyce Payne, Founder, expressed deep appreciation for Mr. Ashley’s leadership, commitment, and vision over the last ten years.  “Clearly the Fund has seen unprecedented growth because of his stewardship and significant contributions.  We are sad to see him leave but wish him well as he explores the next phase of his career.”

During his tenure, the Fund has seen significant growth in revenue, scholarship , programmatic offerings, and advocacy for the HBCU community.  Highlights include:

•   Growth of revenue from  $1.5 million to $15 million annually
•   Established signature programs in leadership, capacity building and the Center for Innovative HBCU School Reform Partnership, to close student academic achievement gaps and increase college readiness
•   Authored several books
